Young bone man Bub and retired sniffer dog Filbert are rescued from the River Thames by a turtle and skipper, Ethel. TRIBUTARY relates how this came about. This account is not only a story, but also the materialization of a compositional practice: a detective novel discovers the past in the present. TRIBUTARY is a book made up of images and text. It is Micha Zweifel's first narrative work in book form. Through drawing, cutting, and copying, Zweifel assembles assorted fragments into a loose sequence. The images draw on long walks during the rainy months in Oxford, from observations of animals, people, clothing, colors, canals, trees, and the weather. The texts are Zweifel’s own, combined with borrowed scraps from a provisional literature of the marsh. And perhaps, if borrowing is not natural, there is a certain use in giving.
